10 Lady Horror Villain Costumes to rock this Halloween.

Halloween is a great opportunity to dress like some of our favorite characters. While most of our horror icons, are dastardly lads, there are plenty of wicked ladies out there too. Maybe you’re a girl who’s bored with the whole female Freddy thing. Perhaps you’re a dude who’d like to get in on the whole gender-bending craze. Either way, here’s a list of costume concepts that will excite any horror fan!

1. Lola – The Loved Ones

2f7acf65d1e0d9a972e65fd36a553055.jpg

When talking about psycho prom dates, Carrie is the queen supreme. Still, Lola from The Loved Ones is not a girl to take lightly. When she fails to obtain the attention of her high school crush, she sets up her own prom for just the two of them. Lola’s idea of prom includes torture and lobotomy, all with a little help from her daddy. For this costume just get a hot pink dress, a crown, a drill, and maybe some blood. Also this could make a cool couple’s costume, if your significant other wants to go as her date, Brent.

2. Esther- Orphan

622106-penampilan-bocah-sadis-film-orphan-.jpg

She’s just an unloved orphan having difficulty adjusting to her new home, right? Wrong! In reality, Esther is a childlike adult with psychotic tendencies. Once she sets her eyes on her new father, it’s just a matter of getting rid of her other inconvenient family members. Dressing as Esther presents a range of options. The easiest Esther look requires an old school blue dress, pigtails, bows, and maybe some white tights.

3. Sadako- Ringu

00-Ringu-psychobitch.jpg

A cursed videotape, a well, a vengeful ghost? Yep, we’re talking about Sadako from Ringu. Sadako is possibly the most well known onryo (vengeful ghost) in Japanese cinema. There are at least 6 books, and 7 movies existing in the Ringu universe. Over the course of time, Sadako’s history has become muddled. Still, her appearance has always remained the same. To rock Sadako’s look, you need a tattered white dress, long black hair, and the ability to crawl out of the television. I wish you luck with that last part.

4. Thomasin- The Witch

The Witch blog.jpg

The 1600s were a tough time to be alive, especially when there’s witchery afoot. In The Witch, poor Thomasin and her family are banished to the woods. As their religious zealotry grows, so does the power of evil. A proper Thomasin outfit needs Puritan garments and a bonnet. To really make it clear who you are, find a stuffed black goat.

5. Mary – American Mary

American-Mary-2128.jpg

Katharine Isabelle is something of a horror goddess, and Mary Mason is one of her best characters to date. For those who haven’t seen the film, Mary starts out as an on edge med student. Then she is raped as her professor’s party. Mary decides to put her surgical skills to work. She uses her medical capabilities to seek revenge on those that abused her, but can she stop at simple revenge? Mary’s outfit is easy to master. You just need a basic white top, black pencil skirt with tights, a pair of black heels, and a black vinyl apron. I’d also add a surgical mask,  some gloves, and some bloody surgical tools.

6. Baby Jane Hudson- Whatever Happened to Baby Jane

Bette Davis is my absolute favorite actress, because she just got better with age. Her finest work is Whatever Happened to Baby Jane. Those of us who’ve seen the movie know that Baby Jane grew up to be a bitter alcoholic, who dominates her paralyzed sister. As the film goes on Jane becomes more and more delusional. Jane believes in all sincerity that she will become a Hollywood star again, and she’s willing to do whatever it takes to keep her dream alive. If you want to transform into Baby Jane Hudson, you’ll need a frilly light colored dress, red lipstick, messy curls, and a baby doll. It also helps if you walk around singing “I’ve Written a Letter to Daddy”.

7.  Nina – Black Swan

black_swan_wallpaper_by_shabaku-d38ycko.jpg

Like Baby Jane, Black Swan’s Nina cracks under the pressure of trying to be a star in a competitive field. Ballet is tough enough as it is. If you throw in an overbearing mother, a lecherous choreographer, some repressed sexual desires, and few hallucinations you get the absolute insanity that is Black Swan. To look like Nina as the Black Swan, wear a black tutu, tights, some ballet style shoes, a tiara, some dark makeup, and red contacts.

8.  The Female- Hellraiser Series

673315-female_cenobite_43265468_super

Huge Clive Barker fan? Are you a master at makeup? Maybe The Female is the right costume for you. The Female was a nun until she opened the box. She was then whisked away to Hell, where she became a cenobite. If you’re a diehard horror fan looking to impress with your costume, give this one a shot. To turn into the lovely female cenobite, you’re going to need some FX supplies, a wig cap, a ton of blue and grey makeup, and a black leather wardrobe.

9. Moira- American Horror Story

Moira-Alex-Breckenridge-american-horror-story-26314420-500-301.png

I’m hesitant to bring up American Horror Story. I was really into the first couple seasons, but then it just kind of descended into self indulgent chaos. Still, Murder House was pretty awesome. If you’re interested in going as one of the AHS ladies, I suggest sexy maid, Moira. While Moira is seen by women as her true age, men see her as a young pin-up babe. This is her curse to carry. Before the events of Murder House, Moira made the mistake of becoming involved with Constance’s (Jessica Lange) husband. This led to rape attempts, jealousy, and ultimately Constance shooting Moira’s eye out. To perfect this costume, pick up some maid attire and play around with retro makeup and hair. I’d also make one eye nice and gross.

10. Dracula’s Brides- Dracula

brides-shock.jpg

This costume really only works in a trio, but what devilish beauties you will be.  The Brides are timeless icons. There have been many depictions of the bloodsucking group throughout the years. Usually they’re depicted as mysterious and captivating. I can picture tons of options when it comes to these vampiric vixens. I like the traditionally elegant look, but a modern twist could be fun too. Let your creativity take over and see what you come up with. My only advice is to make sure the three of you at least kind of match.

There you go! Hopefully this list helps you to come up with a unique Halloween costume that you feel proud of. If you liked this article, please follow us here on the blog and also on Twitter. @HallowsHaunts Happy Haunting!

8 Yandere Girls That Will Stab Their Way Into Your Heart

Yandere – Yandere is a type of character trope in anime. These girls start out as cute, but go totally psychotic when they fall in love. Valentine’s Day seemed like the perfect time to shine the spotlight on these violent vixens.

Note: These are not ranked in any particular order, and there are plenty of spoilers.

1. Yuno Gasai – Mirai Nikki/Future Diary

Abusive parents, traveling between parallel universes, and competing in a survival game are definitely contributing factors, but what really brings out the homicidal in Yuno is Yukiteru Amano. The premise of Future Diary is that 12 contestants must kill each other in order to become the god of time and space. They are given a diary that gives them information about the future. Each person’s diary is tailored to their own personality and style. Yuno’s diary keeps track of Yuki and all of his actions. Yuno is prepared to kill anyone, to protect Yuki and their love. Fortunately for Yuno, Yuki warms up to her terrifying methods of expressing her devotion.

Most Yandere Moment: When she force feeds Yuki in her underwear, in a dark room next to her dead parents.

2. Lucy – Elfen Lied

Lucy is a Diclonius, meaning that she is part of a new powerful species, that poses a massive threat to humans. She has seen very little kindness in her life, so when she made friends with young Kouta, she resorted to violence of Carrie level proportions in order to keep him.

Most Yandere Moment: When she decapitates Kouta’s father and tears his sister in half.

3. Toko Fukawa- Danganronpa

Toko seems like a shy, reserved girl. She is a young romance novelist with a large amount of success, but underneath it all she is a deadly serial killer known as Genocide Jack. Genocide Jack only comes out when Toko becomes obsessed with a boy. In the anime, Toko lapses into her Genocide Jack personality when she sneezes or faints. Keep a tissue and a straight jacket handy!

Most Yandere Moment: Genocide Jack is known to crucify her victims with her Genoscissors.

4. Kaede Fuyou- Shuffle

Shuffle is a pretty standard harem anime, but it’s one of the first harems to include a yandere. Kaede Fuyou is pretty, talented, and athletic. Unfortunately she’s also insecure, self loathing, and suffering from a bad case of unrequited love. When her crush/roommate Rin gets a girlfriend, she snaps. She goes as far as to try and murder her in order to eliminate the competition.

Most Yandere Moment: Kaede does pretty much all the household cooking. That’s fine except for that time she was intensely stirring an empty pot with an expression of pure madness on her face.

5. Misa Amane- Death Note

Crazy attracts crazy in Death Note. Misa and her love, Light prove that. Misa is a popular young model/actress, who’s not afraid to go after what she wants. She has a cute gothic style and a bubbly personality, but many consider her to be annoying. Misa devotes herself to Light, after he kills the man who murdered her family. Both Light and Misa are able to hold the lives of others in their hands. This makes them a deadly combination. Although Misa is willing to do anything for Light, but Light feels nothing for her. I’d compare their relationship to the one between Harley Quinn and the Joker.

Most Yandere Moment: Misa tells Light that she’ll kill any other girl he shows an interest in. Little does she know, Light was planning to kill her after she ceases to be useful.

6. Kotonoha Katsura – School Days

Kotonoha, seems like she has it all. She’s beautiful, rich, and charming. However, she’s hiding a seriously sinister side. At the beginning of the series, she is quiet and polite, and always seems to be alone. Then she starts dating Makoto and it’s all downhill from there. When their relationship begins falling apart, Kotonoha becomes desperate. She started out as a prude, but in order to keep Makoto she transforms into a straight up nymphomaniac. She even encourages Makoto’s other yandere love, Sekai, to get an abortion. She also does crazy shit like pretending to talk to Makoto on the phone, when no one is on the other end.

Most Yandere Moment- In order to prove Sekai was lying about her pregnancy, Kotonoha stabs her in the stomach then goes digging for a baby. Then she sails into the sunset with Makoto’s severed head.

Sekai_yandere_after_push.jpg

7. Sekai Saionji – School Days

Sekai may act like a sweet tomboy, who only wants her best friend Makoto to be happy. Go beneath the surface, and she’s a manipulative bitch, pulling strings to get Makoto and Kotonoha to do as she wants. Sekai is the one who initially sets them up, she gives them relationship advice, then she steals him from her. When Makoto wants to got back to Kotonoha, she pretends she’s pregnant to force him into staying with her.

Most Yandere Moment: Sekai texts Makoto “goodbye” before stabbing the hell out of him.

Minase.Yuka.full.29910.jpg

8. Yuka Minase- 11 Eyes

Yuka and Kakeru met as children, they grew up together at an orphanage. Like many other yanderes, Yuka is kind and reserved but has a jealous side that is powerful when unleashed. Yuka is so powerful that she creates a whole world just for her and Kakeru. Unfortunately, this new world is populated by pretty girls that love Kakeru.

Most Yandere Moment: When Yuka decides, Kakeru is getting a little too close to Misuzu, she hides a razorblade in her tea.

3 Horror Films I’m Thankful For

6a00d83451d04569e20105361f826c970b-800wi

With Thanksgiving weekend coming to an end, now seemed like the perfect time to analyze what horror films have had a major impact on my life. The films on this list will nod be judged by their popularity or even how good they are, rather this will be a list of personal significance. With that being said, let’s get rolling.

52eda5c4544174a7d019d6854a22236c

May– When I think of personal movies, the first film that comes to mind is May. Psychological horror films revolving around disturbed girls hold a dear place in my bloody heart. May came into my life at a time when I was practically hemorrhaging loneliness. To this day I feel like May is a kindred spirit. Ok, so she’s a bit more axe crazy than I am (a bit), but at her core, she’s just a sad, weird girl who wants a friend. From a filmmaking standpoint, Lucky McKee’s little gem taught me that horror films can be quirky, heartfelt, and creepy all at the same time.

UzumakiTomie was actually my first introduction to Junji Ito. While I love Tomie, Uzumaki is the manga/film that most resembles my own spiral into madness. Confused? Let me explain. For as long as I can remember I’ve dealt with some form of OCD. My case is quite severe, and has been a major hindrance in my life. Uzumaki revolves around a town that becomes obsessed with spirals. Although, the characters in Uzumaki are being controlled by supernatural forces, and my own condition is related to brain chemicals, I still see parallels. The movie follows the manga fairly closely. It even retains its chapter format. I think fans of Lovecraft will embrace Junji Ito and his bizarre spiral fascination.

Freaks– Anyone that knows me knows I love a good circus. Whether it’s Cirque du Soleil or some barely functioning traveling circus, I love them all. Like May, Freaks, is  a heartwarming, yet gruesome tale of outsiders struggling to be who they are. The film stars actual freaks, and was considered quite shocking for its time. I applaud Tod Browning for taking such a controversial risk. Browning was a major player in Hollywood, but he was still an out of the box thinker. I hope to always show such courage in my own artistic feats.

There you have it, the top 3 horror films I’m thankful for. What  horror movies are you thankful for? Let me know in the comments, or on Facebook or Twitter. Happy Thanksgiving!
